Summer 2020
Session I (July 20 - July 31)
Session II (August 3 - August 14)
This summer, TOCA is partnering with NaTakallam to host a two-week virtual language and cultural exchange program for students of color across the United States. The program will give students the opportunity to learn Arabic and participate in group dialogues with Middle Eastern refugees and other displaced people.
In a time when many summer programs have been cancelled, and traveling abroad is not possible for students, we believe our program will help not only increase student interest in learning new languages and studying abroad, but also ignite a bigger curiosity and sense of solidarity with the struggles of Middle Eastern communities and others across the world.
Students will take one hour of Arabic a day, Monday through Friday, with an added hour of cultural exchange workshops on both Fridays. This program is of zero cost, as we have successfully fundraised to sponsor fifty students through the program!
We’re looking for students who:
Are between the ages of 14 and 18
Have a passion for global languages and cultures
Identify as a student of color
Are enrolled in a U.S. high school
Apply by July 8!
